VHF/DSC
RADIO COURSE
VBggGMDSS VHF/DSC RADIO COURSE
After the training there will be a practical assessment on the use of the
DSC Radio and a written assessment which has to be conducted by an
external Assessor rather than the Instructor.
Courses will start at 08.30 and finish by 19.30 to allow time for
assessments depending on numbers.
When you book the course you will be issued with a pack including the
RYA Handbook and details on what areas MUST be learnt before the start
of the course.
It is important therefore that you book at least ONE week before the start
date
From 2nd January 2014 the duration of this course will
increase to 10 hours in accordance with CEPT Regulations
Course topics include:
the basics of radio operation
the correct frequencies (channels) to be used
distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures
Digital Selective Calling (DSC)
Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
Search and Rescue (SART)
The course will be taught using radio simulators and training radios
