RADIO COURSE
VBggGMDSS VHF/DSC RADIO COURSE
A radio is an important piece of safety equipment and it
is vital to understand the correct procedures.
Unnecessary tranmissions could block out a MAYDAY
distress call.
During the course your Instructor will be able to advise
you on the best equipment for your boat.
A one day course for anyone who owns a fixed or hand
held marine radio. The Short Range Certificate is the
qualification required to operate a VHF radio on any vessel.
Course topics include:
the basics of radio operation
the correct frequencies (channels) to be used
distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures
Digital Selective Calling (DSC) using simulators
Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
Search and Rescue (SART)
The course will be taught using radio simulators and training radios followed by a short written
test.

Cost: £80.00 plus a £30 RYA Certificate Fee
